Native Message Formatting
WhatsApp’s official formatting help distinguishes monospace and inline code. They use different delimiters:
| Message format | What to type |
|---|---|
| Bold | *text* |
| Italic | _text_ |
| Strikethrough | ~text~ |
| Monospace | Three backticks before and after the text |
| Inline code | One backtick before and after the text |
| Bulleted list | - item |
| Numbered list | 1. item |
| Quote | > text |
These are message formatting instructions. A Unicode monospace alphabet instead changes the characters and requires suitable glyphs on the recipient’s device. Use native formatting for a message when it meets your needs.
About Is Not Status
The profile About field is separate from the Status publishing feature. A business display name and description have their own validation and policies. Do not apply a single character limit or lifetime to all these surfaces. Check WhatsApp’s current controls and help for the exact field you are editing.
Copying into a Message or Profile
Generate a short phrase, copy it, then paste into the destination. Keep a plain original and preview the saved result. Group names, About text and Business fields do not inherit a guarantee from successful pasting into a message. This tool neither approves business templates nor checks their rules.
Mixing Styles
Use native bold for a message label and ordinary text for details. A short script or small-caps phrase can be a decorative experiment in a field that accepts it. Avoid long marked sequences in a conversation: combining marks can collide with message line spacing. The sender’s preview does not prove what every recipient sees.
Compare the Same Message Text
WhatsApp’s eight workbench styles are Bold, Italic, Sans Bold, Monospace, Underline, Strikethrough, Double Underline, and Small Caps. All are rated partial for WhatsApp by the engine; none is rated full or broken. Compared with X’s selection, Monospace and Double Underline replace Cursive and Wide Text.
Using the same plain input, text, makes the difference between message delimiters and generated characters explicit:
| Format | Native message input | Unicode engine output |
|---|---|---|
| Bold | *text* | 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 |
| Italic | _text_ | 𝑡𝑒𝑥𝑡 |
| Strikethrough | ~text~ | t̶e̶x̶t̶ |
| Monospace | ```text``` | 𝚝𝚎𝚡𝚝 |
The Unicode column is the exact output of the corresponding Bold, Italic, Strikethrough and Monospace mappings. It contains no formatting delimiters. In the strikethrough result, each original letter is followed by U+0336; the other three results substitute letters. Double Underline, another option in this selection, appends U+0333. These character conversions do not establish whether message formatting commands work in the About field.
Before You Paste
When editing WhatsApp About text, check that field directly instead of treating a formatted chat message as proof of profile support.
