Italic Text
Italic text uses separate mathematical characters with slanted letterforms. It does not install a font or apply an HTML emphasis tag.

Italic Variants and the Letter h
Math Italic, Sans Italic, Math Bold Italic and Sans Bold Italic are real options. There is no Italic Monospace alphabet in this catalog. The regular mathematical italic h uses β (U+210E), a legacy character from Letterlike Symbols, rather than the unassigned slot in the mathematical alphabet.
Titles and Short Emphasis
A book title or a short aside can be styled separately from the surrounding sentence. To mix bold and italic, copy each segment individually; choose a bold italic style if one segment needs both. For semantic emphasis in a website, use ordinary text with HTML em and CSS.
Why Digits Stay Upright
Unicode does not define separate mathematical italic digit alphabets. The generator preserves unmapped digits and punctuation. Device age alone cannot establish coverage: the selected font and fallback chain determine whether a glyph is available.
Following Italic h Through the Converter
The regular Italic option maps capital A through Z to U+1D434βU+1D44D. Its lowercase sequence has a break: h comes from Letterlike Symbols, while the other lowercase outputs occupy U+1D44EβU+1D454, U+1D456βU+1D467.
| Input | Output | Code point |
|---|---|---|
| h | β | U+210E |
This exception changes the stored length of otherwise similar words. In the generated Hhqx sample, four letters become π»βππ₯. The result contains four code points and seven UTF-16 units: h takes one unit, and each of the other three letters takes two.
Sans Italic instead maps lowercase letters continuously to U+1D622βU+1D63B. All four italic choices preserve the ten ASCII digits, spaces and punctuation; selecting a heavier italic option does not also slant the numbers. A precomposed Γ© remains unchanged, whereas an e followed by a combining acute accent becomes a styled e with that accent retained. For a practical comparison, see italic titles and taglines in Twitter/X examples.
